Amazon Opens New 1 Million Square Foot Fulfilment Centre in Cambridge, Ontario

On November 13, Amazon proudly opened its latest fulfilment centre called YHM2 in Cambridge, Ontario. This huge facility spans almost one million square feet and started off with over 250 employees. It offers training for in-demand skills and chances to grow careers while boosting Amazon’s local operations.

Innovation and Good Jobs Arrive in Cambridge

At the ribbon cutting, Amazon was joined by Ontario’s Minister of Red Tape Reduction, Mike Harris; MPP Brian Riddell; Karen Redman, Regional Chair of Waterloo Region; and Helen Shwery, City Councillor of Cambridge.

YHM2 stores, manages, and ships Amazon products to nearby Amazon Robotics fulfilment centres. This helps those centres handle more customer orders faster than ever.

“YHM2 brings the best of Amazon’s logistics expertise to Cambridge while making the city an important part of how we support our local fulfilment network and offer a leading product selection to customers,” said Greg Clutton, YHM2 Site Lead. “We are proud to be creating good jobs while making important contributions to the local community.”

Helping Employees Build Skills for Tomorrow

Thanks to its great location, YHM2 plays a big role supporting other Amazon centres in southwestern Ontario as the holiday season approaches.

Workers here can learn new skills and advance their careers through training programs that include operating technology like forklifts.

$1 Billion Put Into Safety Around the World

A top priority at Amazon is keeping employees safe – always has been. Since 2019, they’ve put over $1 billion into safety improvements worldwide. Just in 2024 alone, they’re spending more than $750 million on safety tech, resources, training, and programs globally.

Growth Opportunities and Benefits at Amazon

If you work operations here and qualify, you get access to education through upskilling programs like Career Choice. This paid benefit lets employees build skills needed for hot fields today-like Transportation, Technology or Business Services. Career Choice works with over 22 colleges across Canada. So far more than 8,000 eligible workers from Canadian centres have signed up. Amazon covers up to 95% of tuition fees for certificates or diplomas in approved areas.

Apart from that many full-time or part-time regular workers get solid benefits including medical care plus vision and dental coverage along with a group RRSP plan. Plus under their step pay plan hourly staff see planned raises every six months until two years in then another bump after three years. There are also referral bonuses if you bring someone on board for eligible roles.
