Exotic snake found in Cambridge

A big black snake was found recently in Cambridge, and the local humane society is trying to track down who owns it.

It turned out to be a desert kingsnake. This type isn’t venomous but is considered exotic and usually comes from Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Cambridge’s Animal Control Bylaw says you can’t keep this kind of animal as a pet.

The Cambridge & District Humane Society shared a photo on social media of the snake that was found Sunday on Lena Crescent.

That spot is right behind the Cambridge Centre Mall near Conestoga Boulevard.

“All unclaimed animals are then assessed for adoptability after the redemption period based on their overall health and behaviour. This process can take several days to weeks to months depending on the needs of the animal.” read a post by the society.

The humane society keeps stray animals for 72 hours-three days-which means Wednesday is the last chance to claim this snake.

The local humane society mentioned they work with other rescue groups for cases like this, where adoption might not be an option.
