For another week, the public won’t be able to attend City of Cambridge council meetings in person because “heightened security measures remain in place.”
Councillors will meet face-to-face, but the public can only join in through online virtual platforms.
This week’s sessions include a statutory public meeting and a Committee of Adjustment meeting with the councillors.
A City Hall media rep said, “The City’s meetings on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and Wednesday, Oct. 8, will be held virtually for the public. Council and staff will attend in person. Heightened security measures remain in place to ensure a safe and respectful environment for Council, staff and community members.”
The restrictions on public attendance started last month when the Sept. 23 council meeting was moved online.
That meeting would have been the first one where the city introduced its new bag check rule for anyone attending.
On Sept. 22, city officials contacted Waterloo regional police after police got “a threatening voicemail received from a member of the community,” according to them.
Police told 570 News Radio, “the involved community member was located and was trespassed from all City of Cambridge properties. There were no grounds for any criminal charges and no arrest in relation to this incident.”
