A bunch of young runners hit the course at the Cambridge School Sports Partnership Inter-School Cross Country race held at Netherhall School.
After missing a year because of Covid-19, this event welcomed 700 kids from 21 different primary schools on a chilly and windy day.
The tough weather didn’t slow them down though; they were out there chasing both personal wins and team glory over a one-mile track.
There were eight races altogether, split between girls and boys in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Each school’s top three runners counted towards their team score, and medals went to the first three finishers in every race.

The winners included kids from St Matthew’s, Shirley, Newnham Croft, Milton Road, William Westley, St Laurence and Swaffham Bulbeck schools.
St Matthew’s took home the Year 3/4 team trophy with four runners finishing in the top three spots. William Westley came second while Mayfield snagged third place. For Year 5/6 teams, Milton Road finished first followed by St Matthew’s in second and William Westley third.
The scores from both age groups were combined to find an overall champion – that was St Matthew’s again, holding on to their trophy ahead of William Westley who came second and Burwell who placed third.

Cath Heron, CSSP manager, said: “It was great to see so many children from across the partnership taking part and they displayed lots of determination on a difficult course.
“This is our most popular event of the year – schools love it. Thanks must go to the sports leaders from CRC who marshalled the course and Year 8/9 students from St Bede’s who ran with the children or recorded results.”
