Cambridge United have brought in striker Elliott Nevitt from Gillingham on loan until the season wraps up.

The 29-year-old has netted three goals over 24 games this season and faced Cambridge in a 1-1 draw on Boxing Day.

He started out playing non-league football around Liverpool and stepped into the EFL with Tranmere Rovers in 2021 after scoring a hat-trick for Warrington Rylands 1906 at Wembley during the FA Vase Final.

Nevitt joins a Cambridge side that’s gone unbeaten in their last 11 matches, and he said: “The club is on a good run and their ambitions are my ambitions. I want to be at the right end of the league, fighting for something.

“I know it’s going to be hard to get into the team when everyone is going well, but that’s what you want – you can tell it’s a good place to be.”

Currently sixth in the table, Cambridge host Tranmere on Saturday aiming for their fourth straight win.

On signing Nevitt, manager Neil Harris commented: “He adds real competition and energy to the front line, and I believe he’s a very good fit for us.”
