Catherine Elaine “Cathy” Hawn, aged 69, quietly passed away on March 3, 2026, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, after bravely facing cancer.
She was born in Bracebridge, Ontario, to Lloyd and Verna (Amey) Hawn.
Cathy spent much of her working life helping others at the Algoma Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Centre. That job meant a lot to her – she really cared about giving back to her community.
Besides that, she had a real talent for crafting and art. Friends and family often received her handmade gifts-each one carefully made with love and thoughtfulness.
Cathy leaves behind her daughter Natalie Palewicz; her sister Margaret “Peggy” Carol (Hawn) Jewiss along with brother-in-law Ross Jewiss; plus nieces and nephews Amy (Jewiss) Pfrimmer and her kids Marcus and Maria; Benjamin Jewiss with his partner Melanie and their children Henry and Duncan; as well as Beth (Jewiss) Kutcha with spouse Benjamin and their children Everett and Rex. She’ll also be remembered fondly by many other relatives and friends.
The family wants to thank the staff at ARCH Hospice sincerely for the kind care they gave Cathy during her last days.
A celebration of Cathy’s life will happen later on in both Sault Ste. Marie and Bracebridge, Ontario.
