Authorities are searching for answers about Amber Ellis, a woman from Hagersville who also had connections to Cambridge, as police share new details on the fifth anniversary of her disappearance.
Ellis was 32 when she went missing back in March 2021. She was last spotted at a home in Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation during the second half of February, just a few weeks earlier.
“Amber is described as 5’9” (175 cm) and 120 lbs (54 kg) with a slim build, long dark hair and brown eyes,” said Haldimand County OPP. “She has ties to the Brantford, Cambridge, Hamilton and Norfolk County areas.”
The investigation led by the Haldimand County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has involved many searches, interviews, tips from the public, and several appeals over time.
“It’s horrible for us, it’s horrible for her children,” said Ellis’s mother in an OPP video. “Just having the kids here reminds us every day, every minute.”
It was Ellis’s mom who reported her missing on March 8, 2021. She says it’s been a tough five years for their family. The change happened so suddenly and still weighs heavily on them.
“She just disappeared off the face of the Earth,” she shared in the video. “All communications, all phones, all texting, all social media; it just stopped.”
Though many details remain unclear about what exactly happened, OPP have now revealed some fresh info about what might have taken place right before Ellis vanished.
“Shortly before her disappearance, she may have been involved in a confrontation in the Eagle Place neighbourhood in Brantford,” said OPP. They also mentioned there likely was foul play involved around that time.
