CAMBRIDGE, MA – A local man was taken into custody on several drug and firearm charges following a recent encounter with police, the Cambridge Police Department said Monday.
Robert Sullivan, 42, is now charged with trafficking Class A and Class B substances, possessing a Class E substance, illegally carrying a firearm equipped with a high-capacity magazine, possession of a dangerous weapon, and receiving stolen goods.
Officers on patrol in Porter Square last Thursday spotted Sullivan riding a bike they recognized as recently reported stolen. They stopped him and confirmed the bike was indeed stolen.
“During the interaction, Sullivan was frisked for weapons after informing officers he had a pocketknife,” the department said in a statement. “This frisk located a loaded, 9mm handgun, a crime as Sullivan does not have a license to carry a firearm.”
After finding the gun, police searched his bag where they discovered what they believe were heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, along with prescription drugs. They also found an electric stun gun inside.
“This is the third arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm in North Cambridge in just over a week,” the department added.
Brett Parnham and Kyle Evans are the other two arrested on similar charges recently. Sullivan is being prosecuted by Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and appeared in Cambridge District Court within 24 hours of his arrest.
