Zellers was first started in 1931 before HBC took over in 1978. It served as the discount store branch for the big Canadian retailer.
Zellers grew to about 350 spots nationwide before fading away because it couldn’t keep up with competitors like Walmart.
The chain disappeared from Canada after HBC sold many leases to Target. By 2013 most were closed up with the last store shutting down in the GTA by 2020.
