The family sadly shares that Ingrid Lafortune passed away at Southridge Pinewood Long-Term Care Home on April 25, 2026, at the age of 71.
She was the loving wife of Jean Marc “Mackie” Lafortune (who passed before her) and a caring mother to Jennifer Cloutier (Calvin) from Longlac, Ontario, and Jeff
Lafortune (Elizabeth) from Capreol, Ontario. Ingrid was also a proud grandmother to Amelia, Emmett, Connor, and Bryce-her grandkids who brought her so much happiness.
Ingrid grew up in the small northern town of Nemegos before moving to Kormak. That’s where she met Mackie and got married. Their son Jeff
was born there before they moved on to Caramat where their daughter Jennifer arrived. Ingrid and Mackie made Caramat their home for over forty years, raising their family there. During that time, Ingrid worked at the local school and became known in the community for her fantastic cooking and baking skills. She was also a dedicated volunteer with a big heart for animals.
Ingrid didn’t hesitate to lend a hand-whether it was helping out at the Fish Derby each year, supporting walk-a-thons, or just being there for someone who needed it.
She really loved animals-not just her own pets but all kinds like cats, foxes, squirrels, chipmunks, birds-you name it. She’d often share snacks with them. Honestly,
we wouldn’t be surprised if she tried making a sandwich for any black bear wandering across her front yard! When she wasn’t busy helping others or caring for critters,
Ingrid liked playing Bingo and trying her luck on scratch tickets.
Life had its rough patches for Ingrid and Mackie-they faced quite a few struggles together. But through everything they stuck by each other’s side,
giving their kids a warm and happy home full of love. They truly appreciated what they had and never gave up on one another.
Later in life, Ingrid courageously fought dementia which slowly took away her ability to talk but not her strong spirit.
She did all she could to stay close with family and friends until the end. People will remember Ingrid as someone who always smiled,
had a generous soul, and took great pride in her children and grandchildren.
From your kids, mom:
“Having both you and dad gone so young and so close together,
leaves a void that we will continue to try to fill with the amazing memories we have of our weird,
different and hilarious family. Seeing and knowing you’ve been suffering the way you have been has been almost unbearable.
We will miss you forever!! We are
also so relieved that your suffering is over. We hope you’re with dad and finally at peace.
We’ll love and miss you forever. Love Jeff and Jen.”
The family plans to hold a celebration of life later this year.
The arrangements are being handled by Simpler Times Cremation Centre at 575 Central Avenue in Thunder Bay.
If you’d like to show support through donations instead of flowers,
please consider giving to Want A Pet-the local animal rescue group.
