Alassana Jatta’s fantastic second-half double helped Notts County secure a key 2-0 win against promotion rivals Cambridge at Meadow Lane.
The Gambian forward’s goals, his fourth in as many matches, pushed Martin Paterson’s team up to fifth place and matched their best unbeaten streak at home since they came back to the English Football League.
County showed plenty of patience facing an opponent who was tough, well-organised, and happy to hit on the break.
That patience paid off when the hosts shifted gears after halftime, with Jatta breaking the deadlock in the 72nd minute before wrapping things up in injury time.
Clear chances were rare until shortly after the break when Jatta nearly scored from long range but just missed.
Still, he got on the scoresheet with County’s first shot on target of the whole game.
A perfect slide-rule pass from substitute Tom Iorpenda set Jodi Jones free down the wing, and his cross found Jatta’s header for the opener. Then right at full-time, he curled a calm 25-yard strike past Jake Eastwood to seal it.
