Darlene Evelyn was born on September 18, 1948, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She passed away quietly on February 4, 2026, at Sault Area Hospital in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Evelyn Jackson, as well as her brothers Harold (Judy) and Harry (Cindy).
Darlene leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Niel Dainio; her daughters Cindy Rodriguez (Bruce), Lise Ann Long (Chris), and Jamie Dainio; plus her sister Dianne Hemrich (Ray). She took great pride and joy in being Grandma to Kayleigh Roe, Isla Long, and Reed Eckford.
She always encouraged her daughters to believe they could do anything if they put their mind to it – a lesson that’ll stick with them forever. Her cooking and art were special gifts she shared with many across the country. Friends and family knew they’d always find a warm welcome at her place – whether it was for coffee and fresh cookies or a slice of homemade cake. Wherever she went, she made friends easily and left an impression on those around her.
The family wants to say a big thank you to her sisters-in-law Cindy Jackson and Judy Jackson for always being just a phone call away and for their steady support through the years. Special thanks also go out to the caregivers at Mapleview who treated Mom with kindness and respect every day, along with the medical staff at Sault Area Hospital during her last days.
Per Darlene’s wishes there won’t be any services held. Instead of donations please consider doing something kind for someone else-a small gesture really counts.
