Cambridge mounts comeback over Milton on senior night | Sports

MILTON, Ga – On senior night April 15, Cambridge High pulled off its first-ever season sweep against Milton lacrosse with a fourth-quarter rally. The game ended 11-9.

The Eagles started strong with a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter, but Cambridge quickly responded.

Both teams went back and forth during the first half, with the Bears staying within one or two goals by halftime.

Milton came out firing in the third quarter, scoring three goals in under eight minutes while Cambridge managed just one. Senior defenseman Jay Marcille contributed a goal for his team.

Even though the game had lots of whistles and many faceoffs ended with violations, Milton kept their momentum going in the second half thanks to solid wins at the faceoff dot. Sophomore Jaxson Burke of the Eagles won 60 percent of his draws on the night.

But Carter Solomon from Cambridge stepped up big time to slow down Milton’s run by stealing key faceoffs that helped set up his team’s comeback.

The Bears’ defense tightened after a goal from Eagles senior Steele Smithson. Goalie Jack Wildstein made some crucial saves and forced turnovers that sparked six unanswered goals for Cambridge in the second half.

Senior Patrick Bojcic completed his hat trick with a goal that put them ahead with five minutes remaining. Attackman Josh Oblen secured the victory with another score two minutes later, and then the Bears held firm until time ran out.

Oblen and fellow senior Mike Guy praised their younger teammates for stepping up when it mattered most.

“No quit from everyone, they fought for us on our senior night,” Guy said. “It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Cambridge team fight as hard as this one does, and it’s not just our top senior guys. All the underclassmen, the bench was getting juiced, everybody rallied together so it was good to see.”

Oblen led all scorers for the Bears with four goals and credited their coaches especially at halftime for helping adjust their defense.

“Once we got going, we got the energy up,” Oblen said. “We’ve been playing with these kids for eight or nine years, this is a culminating moment just beating our cross-town rival all together. Our entire team felt that joy, coming back from down four goals against our big rivals.”
