Cambridge’s Fireworks Night, the biggest free event in the area, will be held on Midsummer Common from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 1 November, with the fireworks starting at 7pm.
This celebration is organised and run by Cambridge City Council and backed by local businesses and groups including Illumina, Astra Zeneca, RBC Brewin Dolphin, Redgate, Qualcomm, Cambridge BID, Jesus College, Trinity College, Peasgood & Skeates and media partner Cambridge Radio.
Cllr Antoinette Nestor, Cabinet Member for Culture Economy and Skills, said: “Cambridge’s Fireworks Night is one of the most special events in the year.
“It’s a rare opportunity for thousands of people from across every part of the city to share together in the unique excitement and magic of this wonderful event; nothing compares to the anticipation and hush settling on Midsummer Common just before the display begins!
“And with music before and after the fireworks, plus stunning walkabout acts, this year’s event promises to be a brilliant Saturday night out.”
Mark Robinson, Vice President & General Manager, UK & Ireland at Illumina, said: “Cambridge’s Fireworks Night is a truly special community celebration. It brings thousands of people together to share in the joy of an incredible display and a sense of connection across the city. Illumina is proud to support this event for the fourth consecutive year, and we encourage others to join us in keeping this cherished tradition free and accessible for all.”
This event is seen as one of the safest ways to enjoy Fireworks Night. It’s also one of Cambridge’s longest running community traditions that draws huge crowds to Midsummer Common as they watch the night sky light up with amazing colours and patterns.
The event has been scheduled for a weekend so more people can come along without missing out. This year’s award-winning show will be created by Pains Fireworks – founded way back in 1862 – making them Britain’s oldest fireworks company.
Tom Cranmer from Pains said: ‘”This year’s display at Midsummer Common will be amazing as we fill the sky with colour, noise and light! The show will be filled with a variety of new effects as the audience are wowed by the combination of colours and noises that fill the sky.”
Apart from watching fireworks there’ll also be food trucks serving tasty street food plus live music and roaming performers between 6pm and 8.30pm.
Returning once again – now lit up for Fireworks Night – is Autin Dance Theatre’s fantastic 13-foot puppet from Out of The Blue along with five puppeteers who amazed everyone during summer’s Out Of The Ordinary outdoor arts festival.
A large crowd is expected so it’s best to plan your trip early. Try walking or cycling if you can or use public transport. Extra Park & Ride buses will run that evening too. The show starts at 7pm sharp. Please note there won’t be any bonfire this time around.
The hugely popular Cambridge Fireworks Raffle comes back again! Tickets cost just £1 each with prizes like tickets to Corn Exchange shows (subject to availability), £100 Love Cambridge Gift Card vouchers, luxury Lush gift bundles, Jack’s Gelato tokens plus a parent-child hygiene appointment courtesy of well: o dental wellness.
The raffle helps raise funds so everyone can keep enjoying this free community event alongside public donations and sponsor support.
