Cambridge United will be featured in the newest football documentary series, which CBS Sports is set to produce.

The first three episodes are planned to air at the start of the 2025-26 season as part of CBS’s coverage of the English Football League, mainly targeting viewers in the US and Canada.

Filming is scheduled to start during the final weeks of this current season, with more episodes expected to follow later on.

At present, Cambridge sits 22nd in League One, just a few points away from safety and facing potential relegation.

According to a statement from the club, the series “will seek to capture the drama of the end of season on the pitch, whilst showcasing the club set against the iconic city of Cambridge through its supporters and stakeholders.

“Additional episodes will focus on the history and heritage of the club, highlight the city as being the birthplace of the rules of Association Football and provide an insight into pre-season and start of the 2025-26 season.”

Cambridge hopes this series can match some of the buzz created by Welcome to Wrexham, a show that came out in 2022 after Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mc Elhenney took over that Welsh team.

Still, chief executive Alex Tunbridge mentioned it will start as a “modest production” in terms of its “scale and scope”.

He added: “This is not the first opportunity of the kind we have been presented with. However, with the forthcoming rebrand and the recent changes to our football operations we believe now is the right time to share the Cambridge story overseas.

“We have a lot to be proud of as a club and as a city and we hope to use the CBS Sports platforms to educate and engage a new audience. CBS Sports have more than 50 million subscribers and we hope to be able to share a piece of Cambridge with as many of them as possible.”

Cambridge United was founded back in 1912 and joined the EFL in 1970.

They’ve played at England’s second level before and reached two FA Cup quarter-finals plus one League Cup last-eight run but dropped out of league football back in 2005.
It took ten years for them to get back again. They moved up into League One just recently – that was in 20221.

Paul Barry has held most shares since 2019. In 2020 two American investors Adam Webb & Mark Green got involved too taking around 20% between them collectively.
Last October though Barry & Green both bought half Webb’s shares so he could focus instead on his Scottish club St Johnstone.
