Steven Cecil Roberts - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

Steven Cecil Roberts (1952-2026) passed away on January 22, 2026. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Cecil and Joan Roberts (nee Newton). Steve got his start in the kitchen and life by working at the family spot, Roberts’ Restaurant. Later on, he settled down in Thunder Bay. Barb, his partner in crime, gave him the nickname “Toad.” Around Paterson Court, Steve was known as both a prankster and a master of gourmet pizza among friends. Cooking up meals, sharing them with others, and making people laugh were some of his biggest pleasures. Those close to Steve often got to enjoy his writing talents and candle making skills-and yes, those random 4:00 a. m. texts with pictures of whatever dish he whipped up that day. He took the bus almost daily-not just to get around but also to keep in touch with the world beyond Paterson. Steve had an easy way about starting conversations; he always had a story or was ready to lend a hand. Everyone mattered to him. Even though his last few years were tough, Steve cherished every single day like it was something special. He met every challenge with humor, kindness-and naturally by collecting every kitchen gadget you could imagine. He leaves behind sons Colin (Val) and Graeme (Michelle); grandkids Ben, Lola, John and Mae; his amazing former partner Julie; siblings Susan, Linda, Wendy and Wayne; plus his best friend Barb.

To quote “The Grateful Dead” (from Truckin’):

Sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me

Other times I can barely see

Lately it occurs to me

What a long strange trip it’s been.

Not long enough Steve. Just know you’re loved so much and missed even more. We figure you’ve already set up your kitchen up there somewhere-enjoy!

Cremation has already happened. If you wish to honor him without flowers, donations to any charity of your choice would be appreciated.
