Local police are asking parents to take a close look at their kids’ Halloween candy after tiny pin nails were discovered inside two chocolate bars picked up while trick-or-treating in Cambridge and Kitchener.
Waterloo regional police say the chocolate bar from Cambridge was picked up near Sunset Boulevard and Saxony Circle on October 31. On Sunday evening around 6 p. m., a caregiver noticed what police described as a “small pin nail” inside the candy bar and then reported it.
A couple of days later, on Tuesday, officers got another call from someone in Kitchener who found a similar small pin nail inside a chocolate bar collected on Halloween in the Hudson Crescent neighborhood.
No one got hurt in either case, and Waterloo Regional Police Service confirmed both incidents involved Coffee Crisp bars.
Police are still considering whether these nails could have accidentally ended up there during production or packaging.
“The safety and well-being of our consumers is our number one priority, and we take all concerns very seriously,” said Catherine O’Brien, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Nestlé Canada.
“We have stringent quality control measures in place to ensure the safety and integrity of our products.”
O’Brien also told 570 News Radio that so far Nestlé hasn’t been contacted by police about any investigation but they’ll “cooperate fully” if that changes.
The police remind parents to check all candy carefully before letting kids eat it, and any treats that seem suspicious should be tossed out right away.
