Obituary for the late Beatrice Martina Costello – Kingston News

After living a full and happy life, Mom passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, to reunite with Dad. We miss her every single day, but we understand she was worn out and it was time for her to rest.

Beatrice shared 57 years of marriage with Gordon until he died on May 4, 2018. She was a caring and supportive mother to Ann Marie (Johnny), Cathy (Paul), and Laura (Andrew); a loving Grandma Bea to Katharine (Greg), Patrick (Claire), Colin (Courtney), Claire (Toury), Lauren, Rudy, Jonah (Mika), and Clara; and a devoted Great Grandma Bea to Cayenne.

Her brother Ronald (Teresa) will miss her deeply, along with sisters-in-law Rose Marie Murray, Connie Murray, Joan Murray and many nieces and nephews.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents John and Melva Murray; siblings Edward (who died in infancy), Mary Ellen “Mamie” Delaney, Helen Nolan, Jerry Murray, Jerome Murray, Joe Murray, Cyril Murray, and Arthur Murray.

Mom was born January 30, 1932 on the family farm in Huron County. She often thought about how much hard work went into raising such a big family on a working farm but also remembered fondly the closeness of their Catholic family life. At 18 she left home to become a teacher and when she wasn’t teaching she loved traveling the world. Her travels stopped at age 28 when her mom had an accident that needed her back on the farm. Then she met Dad – their love story started there – and from that moment on she never looked back.

Mom was sharp-witted, competitive at bridge games, kind-hearted with a strong sense of right and wrong. You always knew what she thought because she’d already told you straight up. She kept friends for life but made new ones easily too. She sometimes wondered why people were drawn to her; thought it might be her dry sense of humor or blunt honesty. We think it was also because she had warmth and just kept things real. Her Catholic faith meant a lot to her-it really shaped how she treated others.

Please join us as we remember Mom at Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home Township Chapel at 435 Davis Drive in Kingston on Thursday April 23rd from 4 pm until 7 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church located at 392 Palace Road in Kingston on Friday April 24th at 11 am. Afterward there’ll be the Rite of Committal with Prayers at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at 718 Division Street in Kingston followed by a reception back at the church hall hosted by family members. Instead of flowers please consider donating to Partners in Mission Food Bank as an expression of sympathy.
