Obituary for Helene Marion (Geraldi) Wasson | Highland Park

Helene Marion Wasson (née Geraldi) passed away quietly on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the age of 97.
She was born in Tweed to Helen and Max Geraldi on April 28, 1929.
Helene is survived by her children: Sue (Pat), Jane (Barry (D)), Doug (Shelley), Julie (David), Bill (Jackie), and Scott; her grandchildren: Cameron (D), Jennifer, Christine, Lauren, Mitchell, Brianne, Jakob and Andrew (and their mother Julie Selby); as well as her great-grandchildren: Nathan, Alyssa, Max, Tyler and Eva. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends. Her sisters-in-law Freida (Dean (D)) and Cheryl (Bert) survive her too.
She was preceded in death by her parents Max and Helen; siblings Jean and Bill; husband Cam; plus in-laws Royden and Betty, Dean, Elaine, Don and Marie as well as Neil and Gail.
Helene’s faith in God was the center of her life. It guided everything she did and shaped how dedicated she was to her family. She was truly the heart of the home – loyal, dependable and always supportive – proud beyond words of all her kids’, grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ achievements.
Sports meant a lot to Helene. She loved athletics from way back – whether playing herself or cheering from the sidelines or watching games on TV. Her passion for sports really brought excitement to family times and made special memories for everyone around her.
Hard work described Helene perfectly. Later on in life she bravely went back to school to study social services. With lots of grit she climbed through City Hall in Peterborough until becoming Director of Social Services for Peterborough County. Everyone knew her as compassionate and fair with an endless dedication both to coworkers and those she helped.
After retiring it says a lot that the Sisters of St. Joseph asked Helene to be the first layperson Administrator at Mount St. Joseph in Peterborough – proof of how much respect she’d earned locally plus trust in her faithfulness and skills.
She leaves behind a strong example of faithfulness, persistence, service to others plus unconditional love.
The family wants to thank Dr. Sara Belanger & Dr. Emily Hughes for their outstanding ongoing care along with Hospice Peterborough for their kind support during Helene’s final days.
Visitation will happen Monday May 4 from 6:00 -9:00 pm at Highland Park Funeral Centre. The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday May 5 at 1:30pm at Cathedral of St.
Peter-in-Chains located at 411 Reid Street in Peterborough followed by burial then reception right after at Highland Park Funeral Centre located at 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough ON K9J 1C5.
Instead of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Peterborough if you wish. You can also leave online condolences at www. highlandparkfuneralcentre. com
