A police officer from Cambridgeshire faced a misconduct panel over allegations of driving to work under the influence. The fast-tracked hearing on April 17 decided that the officer had broken rules around unacceptable behavior and fitness for duty.

It was claimed the officer drove to the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Headquarters on December 23, 2025, while above the legal alcohol limit. Officers arrived with a breathalyzer, and the officer failed the test, leading to their arrest for drink-driving.

During questioning, the officer admitted to drinking alcohol in the early hours of December 23 and then driving into work later that morning, according to the official notice about the hearing.

Following this, charges were brought against them for driving after consuming enough alcohol to exceed legal limits. They appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on January 15, 2026, where they pleaded guilty.

At the misconduct hearing, evidence included footage showing the officer driving to work, statements from fellow officers as witnesses, and their own admission of having drunk ‘three bottles of wine’ in those early hours.

The panel concluded that it was more likely than not that these allegations were true. The officer’s lawyer reportedly said their client didn’t believe their actions amounted to gross misconduct.

Ultimately, they were found guilty of gross misconduct and will be dismissed without any further warnings. The decision aims to protect public confidence and discourage similar behavior in others.
