Janet Lynne Stammers (née Fulkerson) - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

We’re saddened to share that Janet Lynne Stammers (née Fulkerson) has passed away. Born in Fort William, Ontario on October 4, 1946, she died peacefully at home with family around her on May 7, 2026. She leaves behind her sons Ryan (Sean) and David (Ashley), her brother Farrell (Joanne), nieces Jamie and Riley, grandchildren Norah and Cole, along with other family members. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Murray, as well as her husband John.

Janet grew up facing challenges with a cheerful spirit and braided pigtails. As she got older, she carried a quiet strength through life’s ups and downs. She went to university at Western and Queens before starting out teaching high-school math at Selkirk C. V. I. back home in Thunder Bay. Early on in her career, she moved to Toronto where she met John. Most of her teaching years were spent in the math department at Harbord Collegiate Institute in Toronto, where many students were inspired by her love for learning. In retirement, Janet enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, attending lectures, watching curling matches, and travelling alongside her sons.

Her biggest joy was always her boys-Ryan and David-and she wanted nothing more than to spend lots of time with them near the end. Summers off from teaching gave Janet and John the chance to take epic road trips across North America with their kids camping and exploring new places together – which sparked their sons’ own love for travel and adventure. As Ryan settled in Ottawa and David moved out west to Edmonton as they got older, Janet’s pride in both just kept growing.

A keen bridge player who loved learning new things all her life-and yes, an ice cream fan too (just one little “snick”!)-Janet will be remembered for the courage she showed quietly through everything.
