Wayne Frederick Hugli
March 24, 1948 – April 20, 2026
We’re sad to share that Wayne Frederick Hugli passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 78.
Wayne was the son of the late James Frederick Hugli and Mae Lillian (Hood) Hugli. He will be fondly remembered by his sisters, Susan Florence (Hugli) Davis (Ivan) and Cynthia Joyce (Hugli) Graham (Gary).
He was a loving husband to Linda Lorraine (Andrews) Hugli. Wayne also had an adopted son, Paul Hugli, and was a stepfather to Chris Davidson and Ryan Davidson. He took great joy in being a grandfather to Leah Meloch (Hayden), Josh Hugli, Brody Davidson, Jack Davidson, Claire Davidson, Jett Davidson, and Charlie Davidson.
Born in Coniston, Wayne lived in Greater Sudbury his whole life. He spent many years working as a teacher before retiring. His career included time at L. J. Atkinson Public School, Robert Jack Public School, and Mac Leod Public School. Later on he worked as a Media Coordinator with the Rainbow District School Board until he retired in 2000.
Wayne cared deeply about his community and was recognized for all he did. Through Scouts Canada he received the Medal for Good Service because of his long service as District Commissioner and District President for Greater Sudbury. He was also honoured for helping with schoolyard regreening projects by getting the Greater Sudbury Civic Award for Volunteerism along with Northern Life’s Community Builders Award of Excellence in the Environment.
His love for gardening and community work earned him several awards including the Sudbury Horticultural Society President’s Award and the Ontario Horticultural Association District 13 Appreciation Award where he served as Treasurer and President. After more than 25 years involved with the Ontario Heritage Fairs Association, Wayne was given the Lieutenant Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award from Ontario’s government.
People will remember Wayne for how much he cared about teaching others, protecting nature, and giving back to those around him. His kindness and leadership really made a difference in so many lives.
Cremation has been completed with plans for burial at Sudbury Civic Memorial Cemetery later on.
