HODGSON, Robert John - Obituary - Sault Ste. Marie

Robert John Hodgson, 67, quietly passed away at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood, Ontario surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Robert later moved to Toronto for work where he built a strong career in concrete formwork that lasted until his death. His drive, curiosity, and sharp sense of humor really helped him succeed. He always had the perfect thing to say and somehow could land himself both in trouble and out of it with ease.

You could tell Rob was curious about everything just by talking with him. Conversations about history, current events, the meaning of life or anything nature-related were easy to get caught up in. He loved movies and being outdoors and had a wide taste in music-from Celine Dion all the way to AC/DC-that he enjoyed sharing with those close to him.

He took pride in being a dependable leader who could take care of his daughters. We say goodbye for now with heavy hearts but know he’s given us the tools we need to face whatever comes next.

The son of the late John and Georgina, he leaves behind Barbara and his children Caitlin (Chad), Britania along with nephew Justin (Jenn). Son-in-law of Barbara and the late Richard. Oldest brother to Gerald (Joy), Steve, Karen (Russell), the late Glenn and Jim (Fran). Brother-in-law to Fran (Henry) and Jenny (John). Uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

The funeral service will take place in the chapel on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 11:00 am followed by a reception.

Interment will be held later at Greenwood Cemetery back home in Sault Ste. Marie.

The family wants to thank everyone for all their support during this time-every visit, phone call or kind message has meant so much.
