We’re heartbroken to share that Denise Olivia Pires from Brantford passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Brantford General Hospital. She was in her 57th year. Denise was born in Toronto, Ontario, and moved with her parents and brother to Delhi back in late 1973. Her parents ran the Pires Grocery & Fish Market there until 1997. Growing up, she helped out at the store-stocking shelves, ringing up customers, pumping gas-and sneaking a “treat or two” from the candy and chocolate aisle. She loved traveling and had visited Portugal, France, and Jamaica to see family and friends. Denise really enjoyed family get-togethers and celebrations. One thing you should know about our Portuguese culture is.. We LOVE Food, talking loud, laughing hard, dancing around-and eating even more food! When we gather with our loved ones there’s always someone to chat with and laugh alongside.. then more food follows. Food is a big part of who we are. She collected teddy bears, beanie babies, unicorns; she also liked puzzles, board games, reading books, and watching movies. She was the dear daughter of Aurora (Neves) Pires and the Late Manuel Pires (2022). Loving sister to the Late David Pires (1997). Devoted mother to Angelina and Antwyonne and a special mom figure for Shantae and Rhueshayne (Desroy Poyser’s children). Dear niece of Lucinda Rodrigues (Late Manuel 2012), Late Jose Neves (2025) (Rosa), and Manuel Neves (Maria). Survived by several cousins and extended family spread across Canada, France, and Portugal. Friends can visit at MURPHY FUNERAL HOME in Delhi at (519) 582-1290 (www. mfh. care) on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p. m. A Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church in Delhi on Thursday March 19th at noon. Burial will follow at Delhi Cemetery. The family would appreciate donations made to Diabetes Canada or Heart & Stroke Foundation-or any charity close to your heart.
