Catherine Elaine Murray - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

September 9, 1950 – May 15, 2026

Catherine Elaine Murray, aged 75, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away quietly on May 15, 2026, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She was surrounded by her family’s love at the time.

Catherine was born on September 9, 1950, in Fort William, Ontario to Brian and Doris Sabbe. She spent her childhood on Brock Street with a big and lively extended family. The mischievous Parson boys were often around too-their antics are part of many fond memories she carried from those early days.

She had a strong work ethic and built a career based on genuine connections. Catherine worked as Assistant to Director Jim Mc Cuaig at the Lakehead Public School Board before moving on to be Director of Media Relations at Confederation College. People appreciated her friendly nature and how she made everyone feel welcome and important.

More than anything else, Catherine loved her family and friends and enjoyed hosting get-togethers. Whether it was at home, camp, Florida or cruising somewhere warm-her door was always open. There was always laughter, music and dancing when she welcomed people in. She had a special way of brightening up any room and making others feel included. Living joyfully and generously really described who she was.

She leaves behind her husband Roy Murray; daughters Jennifer (Patrick) and Kathleen (David); plus grandchildren Preston, Lily, Alex and Calvin who meant the world to her. Also remembering her are stepchildren Elizabeth and Stephen; step-grandchildren Christopher (Ayla) and Kathleen (Jordon); along with step-great-grandchildren.

Her sisters Lynne (Randy) and Patricia will miss her deeply as will in-laws Gerald (Marilyn), Jimmy, Roland (Wanda), Ron; many nieces & nephews; extended family; plus close friends like Laraine, Marga Edith & Tom who were very dear throughout Catherine’s life.

Preceding Catherine in death were her parents Brian & Doris; brothers Terrance & Niall; brother-in-law Philip; sister-in-law Wanda.

Plans for a Celebration of Life will be announced later.

Instead of flowers donations can be made in Catherine’s name to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – Cancer Centre.

Catherine – Mom, Mor Mor Auntie & Friend – will be greatly missed by everyone lucky enough to know her.

“Dance like no one is watching, love like you’ve never been hurt, sing like no one is listening, and live like it’s heaven on earth.”
