May 29, 1938 – April 24, 2026
Betty (Betty Anne) Perrault’s family is heartbroken to share that she passed away on April 24, 2026, at the age of 87. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Les (Susan) and Donna; grandchildren: Taylor, Savannah (Alex), and Hailey; great-grandson: Cameron; sister-in-law: Bev Perrault; along with many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim (James); parents Harvey and Jean Meadows; brother and sister-in-law George and June Meadows; parents-in-law Erwin and Muriel Perrault; brother-in-law Edwin Perrault; and son-in-law Mike Spavor. Betty grew up in Pense, Saskatchewan. She often reminisced about her childhood days there-whether helping out on the farm, visiting her dad at his service station, or getting into mischief with her cousin Edith Foster. She went to Reliance Business College in Regina which helped a lot later on in life. When she was young, she met “her Man” Jim from nearby Grand Coulee. They got married on October 12, 1957. Soon after they moved into an apartment in Regina where Betty worked at a jewelry store while Jim was employed by the Leader Post newspaper. Before long, Jim took a new job with the Daily Times-Journal newspaper in Fort William (now Thunder Bay), so they headed east together. Their family grew pretty quickly after that. Betty was a wonderful mom-full of love and patience-and really the center of their family life. She taught by example and made sure all of us learned how important family is-a lesson we still carry with us today. That’s probably what means the most to all of us now. Later on when it was time to go back to work, Betty started part-time jobs at Val’s Card and Party Shop as well as Cheryk Cartage before settling into a career with the City of Thunder Bay starting in 1974. Over the years she worked across different departments including Telephone & Water, Health & Safety, Employee Health Services, and Human Resources. One thing she felt proud about was going back to school at Lakehead University to become an Audiometric Technician then taking Medical Terminology classes at Confederation College which qualified her as a medical secretary too. She stayed with the City until 1991 when Jim landed a job with Erco Worldwide up in Grande Prairie. Moving there was tough for Betty since it meant leaving behind her first grandchild but she stood strong beside Jim through it all. They enjoyed their time living in Alberta before he retired then moved back home to Thunder Bay around 1995. Betty and Jim were avid travelers too-they ventured north all the way to Alaska down south to Australia plus many other places scattered between those spots! In winter they’d head off as snowbirds down to Arizona making lifelong friends wherever they went along the way too! Although Betty had lots of skills-she really shined brightest as a mom, grandma and great-grandma above anything else though! Whether it meant baking amazing birthday cakes or helping pick out backpacks for school or simply keeping piles upon piles of photos & memorabilia for scrapbooks -she did it all with love like no one else could! Her friends especially those from Happy Gang were also showered constantly with warmth only she could give so freely like that too! Some of her happiest times were just being surrounded by loved ones whether that meant summer barbecues galore hanging out at friends’ campsites or getting dressed up nice for nights out with Jim-the smile she had then lit up any room instantly every single time! It’ll be hard without her here but thankfully we know both Betty & Jim are together again now.
A Celebration of Life will take place May 7, 2026 from 2:00pm – 4:30pm at Slovak Legion located at 801 Atlantic Avenue in Thunder Bay. If you want you can make donations instead toward Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay, Hospice Northwest or Northern Cancer Fund-or any charity close to your heart.
The family wants sincerely thank staff members from Southbridge Roseview along with Chartwell Thunder Bay residence because both places gave such caring attention during Betty’s final days.
