Zellers is making a comeback in Canada, and one of its first 25 new stores will be opening in Cambridge.
The new Zellers won’t look exactly like the old stores people remember, since the chain mostly closed down back in 2013.
Instead, these Zellers spots will be set up inside existing Hudson’s Bay stores. For Cambridge, that means it’ll be inside The Bay at Cambridge Centre.
The Hudson’s Bay Company announced Zellers’ return back in August 2022, after running a pop-up shop in Burlington earlier.
Adam Powell, Zellers’ chief business officer, said in the August announcement that they get “how special” Zellers is to Canadians.
“Spanning generations, people hold distinct connections to Zellers through shared experiences with family and friends, and we look forward to building on that in the future,” Powell said.
There were sales of 70 to 90 per cent off to clear out the last two Zellers stores, including this one in Etobicoke, before they shut down in January of 2020. (Michael Wilson/CBC)
The store will offer things like home decor, toys, baby items, clothes and pet supplies-all wrapped up in Zellers’ classic red and white colors that help guide customers through their shopping trip.
The company hasn’t given an exact opening date for the Cambridge location yet but expects both a new online store and physical locations to launch around the same time.
Other Ontario locations include:
Erin Mills, Mississauga. Burlington Mall, Burlington. White Oaks Mall, London. Scarborough Town Centre , Scarborough. Pen Centre Shopping Plaza, St. Catharines. Rideau Center, Ottawa. St. Laurent Center, Ottawa. Cataraqui Town Centre , Kingston.
There will also be five spots in Quebec; four in British Columbia; three in Alberta; two in Nova Scotia; plus one each in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
