2 Millionth Lexus RX Rolls Off the Line in Cambridge

The Lexus RX is definitely one of the top luxury SUVs here in Canada. With just over 8,000 sold so far this year, it makes up about a third of all Lexus sales across the country and ranks right behind its smaller cousin, the NX.

This model was actually Lexus’ first to be built outside Japan back in 2003. Now, 22 years later, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada’s (TMMC) South plant in Cambridge, Ontario has rolled out its 2 millionth RX.

Out of those 2 million RXs made, more than 145,000 have stayed right here in Canada. The rest were shipped off to the U. S. and other countries. Interestingly enough, nearly 95 percent of all RXs sold in Canada last year were assembled locally. The few that weren’t – mainly the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrids – came from Japan.

“The Lexus RX continues to be a favourite among drivers across North America, and we thank our team members for their skill, dedication and commitment to craftsmanship, which ensure every vehicle meets the highest standards of luxury and quality,” TMMC President Tim Hollander said.

Since opening in 1991, TMMC’s three plants have picked up over twenty national and international awards for product quality – including several for the Lexus RX.

Earlier this year, The Car Guide took a look back by driving a 2005 RX 330 and then checked out how efficient the new plug-in hybrid system is on the upcoming 2025 RX 450h+. You won’t want to miss those stories.

This week our colleague Julien Amado is heading out west to B. C. for the last part of Lexus’ 35th anniversary celebrations where the new 2026 ES will make its first Canadian appearance. We’ll share a full update soon.
