Cambridge Police Department Offers Tips to Stay Safe After Rise in Housebreaks
Cambridge, MA – February 9, 2024 – The Crime Analysis Unit at Cambridge Police has noticed a jump in housebreak incidents lately. Over the last couple of months, break-ins have increased in The Port and Mid-Cambridge areas. Most of these break-ins happened through unlocked doors or windows. Items like electronics, jewelry, and cash seem to be what’s getting taken.
To tackle this, Cambridge Police have stepped up patrols around places like 200-375 Columbia Street, the 200 block of Havard Street, and the 100 block of Oxford Street while looking into these cases.
If you want to keep your home safer from break-ins or attempts, here’s what Cambridge Police suggest:
WATCH HERE:
• Make sure all your doors and windows are locked-especially basement doors.
• Talk with everyone you live with about locking up when they leave, even if it’s just for a little while.
• Put window guards on so they can’t open more than a few inches.
• Don’t prop open any doors or let someone follow you inside an apartment building if you don’t know them.
• Set up motion sensor lights outside your place where they can’t be easily reached.
• Security cameras at home might help scare off anyone thinking about breaking in.
• It’s really important to report any crimes or anything that looks suspicious right away.
