CALEA Accreditation Public Portal for Cambridge Police Department

Back in 2022, the Cambridge Police Department started a full overhaul of its policies, procedures, rules, and regulations with a focus on procedural justice. The department decided to go through a multi-year process to earn accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This accreditation is seen as the top standard in law enforcement and fits well with the department’s goal of fair and just policing.

CALEA mainly aims to improve how public safety services are delivered. Their goals include boosting crime prevention efforts, ensuring hiring practices are fair and unbiased, and promoting better cooperation between agencies – all to build more trust within both the community and police staff.

As part of this journey, Cambridge Police welcomes public comments sent directly to CALEA. This public portal is set up to collect feedback about how well the agency meets CALEA standards, interacts with the community it serves, provides public safety services, and whether it deserves accredited status. People can share compliments or raise concerns. Overall, this process helps the department get useful input that supports ongoing improvement while encouraging professional excellence.

IMPORTANT: CALEA doesn’t investigate complaints or incidents so this portal isn’t meant for submitting such information. Also, while submissions will be acknowledged, there won’t be direct replies; still, all input will be reviewed based on how relevant it is to meeting standards and CALEA® Accreditation principles.
