The Waterloo regional police have been closely watching two main streets in Cambridge, paying special attention to thefts from stores.
During February and March, officers concentrated on crimes happening along Hespeler Road and Franklin Boulevard.
In those two months, they looked into 37 retail theft cases and ended up laying charges in 75 of them.
This included 57 charges related to theft, some involving people who were suspected of stealing more than once.
“The initiative resulted in significant enforcement outcomes and strengthened partnerships with local businesses,” read a release from police.
“A key focus of the operation was addressing repeat and organized theft activity.”
The effort also targeted what the police call “coordinated criminal behaviour,” linking two incidents to possible organized crime groups.
