Gillingham have wrapped up the signing of James Brophy from Cambridge United, agreeing on a two-year contract.
The adaptable midfielder spent five seasons at Abbey Stadium and is now moving on after helping Cambridge secure automatic promotion back to League One last season.

The 31-year-old is the first player Gills have signed this summer. He said he was eager to join Priestfield after chatting with manager Gareth Ainsworth.
“I am really excited and really happy. I had a really good conversation with Gareth, I found him really relatable and genuine,” Brophy said.
“I feel like I have got a lot of years left in me. I like to be positive on the pitch, I like to create goals and I think you are going to get someone that you know gives everything they can on the pitch.”

Last season, Gillingham ended up 17th in League Two, with Ainsworth leading a revamp of their recruitment as they look to push for promotion next year.
