Wendy Leigh Wootton (Walker) Obituary

Wootton (Walker), Wendy Leigh

She passed away peacefully at 60, surrounded by her family’s love and laughter after bravely fighting cancer for 18 years on Thursday, January 31st. She was the wife of Kenneth David Garratt Wootton for 35 years and a dedicated mom to Garratt (Lauren), Kristin (Erik), and Brock. A proud grandma (Coco) to Finleigh and Walker. Daughter of the late James and Marcia Walker. Sister to Kim (Gary) Johnsen and James (Jayne) Walker. Aunt to Karen Wootton, the late Kim Wootton, Thomas Grant, Lachlan Grant, and Ryan Johnsen. Besides her family, she had a close-knit group of friends who stood by her.

Wendy was born in Buffalo, New York but grew up in Eden, New York. She finished Eden Central School in ’76 and earned her H. B. A. in German Studies from Brock University in 1980-that’s where she met Ken. Before moving to Canada after marriage, she worked at Marine Midland Bank back home in Buffalo. Beyond being a mom and grandma full-time, Wendy ran her own business and volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Nelson Youth Center. Traveling was a big part of her life; her last trip with family included hiking through the Swiss Alps and visiting her grandparents’ farm. She loved teaching piano lessons and enjoyed playing the harp too. People will remember Wendy for her unique style, warm hospitality, and how deeply she cared for those around her.

Friends can visit at Smith’s Funeral Home (1167 Guelph Ln., Burlington) on Monday, February 4th from 3-5 pm and again from 7-9 pm. A remembrance service will take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (1371 Elgin St., Burlington) on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am February 5th. If you’d like to honor Wendy’s memory with a gift, donations to the Nelson Youth Centre would be truly appreciated.
