Police redirected traffic around River Street and Memorial Drive after shots were heard around 1:30 p. m. on Monday. More than a dozen marked and unmarked State Police cars showed up, and Boston Police blocked off routes from Storrow Drive and the Mass Pike into Cambridge.
A few ambulances also arrived at the scene. It wasn’t clear if anyone was actually hurt by the gunfire. At 2:04 p. m., Cambridge Police sent out an alert citywide saying this was still an active police situation but there was no ongoing threat to people.
Cambridge Police hadn’t immediately responded to questions for more details. Traffic was still being detoured as of 2:15 p. m.
