Obituary of Nicola Qawwas | Windsor Chapel Funeral & Cremation

November 07 1943 – May 06 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Nicola Qawwas’s passing. Known to many as Nick, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his family at the age of 82.

Nick was born in Jifna, Palestine on November 7, 1943. At 23, he moved to Canada and carried with him the rich culture of his homeland. Over more than sixty years, he blended those roots into a new life here. He was proud of both where he came from and where he ended up. Nick loved Canada deeply, and nothing showed that better than hearing him sing the national anthem-his way of honoring the life he built here.

He was married to Rima for 55 years. Together they raised Zahia, Badi, Natalie (Jeff), and George (Danielle). Nick was a proud grandfather to Michael, Owen, Olivia, Ayla, Sophie, and Anthony. He is survived by his sister Marie Zawany (late Gubrael) and was predeceased by his brother Suhail and sisters Jameelah and Suhaila. He also leaves behind nephews Angelique, George (Karen), Alexander (Andrea), and their families.

As one of the first founders of St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church, Nick played a big role in building community there. For over three decades he shared his gift as a chanter; his strong voice brought warmth to many during services.

What defined Nick most were two things: his faith and his family. His love was deep – you saw it every day in how much care he gave others and how kind he was to everyone who knew him.

We want to thank all the doctors, nurses, and PSWs who looked after Nick both in hospital and at home. Your kindness and dedication meant so much to all of us.

Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Banwell location) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 2-5 pm and again from 7-9 pm. Prayers start Monday at 8:00 pm. On Tuesday morning May 12th at 10:00 am visitation continues at St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church (1808 Labelle St.) followed by funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will take place afterward at Windsor Memorial Cemetery. The family kindly requests donations be made in Nick’s name to St. Ignatius of Antioch Orthodox Church if desired.
