Lenore Colosimo, born Price, came into the world on August 31st, 1938 and passed away on May 5th, 2026. She spent her whole life in Thunder Bay where she was born and raised. Lenore had a brother named Alan who died before her, as did their parents Victor and Hazel Price.
Earlier this year, Lenore got some tough news; she was diagnosed with late stage cancer that couldn’t be treated. True to her nature, she faced it calmly and with grace saying, “I’ve had a wonderful life and it is what it is”. She and Jim, her husband of 65 years and true partner in life, started getting things ready for what was ahead. They moved from their condo to the Walford Residents with help from their three kids Mark (Giselle), Shelly (Scott), and Tracy (Tom). As Lenore’s pain grew worse and her quality of life dropped, she and Jim along with family support decided to arrange for MAID.
When she was younger, Lenore worked at Lake Shippers until she began raising a family with Jim. Even while managing three little ones close together, she still found time to volunteer. She helped out with the Christmas Cheer Fund and Meals on Wheels but spent most of her energy on Girl Guides of Canada.
Lenore joined Brownies at age seven then moved up to Girl Guides at ten along with her friend Diane Silver. They were actually the first in Thunder Bay to earn the Gold Cord – which is the top honor in Guiding. That wasn’t the end though; it kicked off another thirty years of volunteering as a leader in Girl Guides. She started as a group leader and also worked as a counselor at Polly Lake summer camp. Her three kids went camping too while Jim pitched in doing maintenance around camp – truly a family thing. Over time Lenore took on more duties until she became Madame Commissioner for Northwestern Ontario. She often spoke warmly about all the people she met and good times being a guide leader meant everything to her.
In ’72 they moved from Port Arthur over to Fort William into a new neighborhood called Confederation Drive where they made lots of lifelong friends who they called “golf-girls” – close pals who got together often.
Lenore and Jim loved their camper trailer which brought many happy years for everyone in the family. They traveled along the north shore going west toward Atikokan Fort Frances or sometimes parked at Shebandowan for long stretches. While Jim ran his insurance business nearby, Lenore took the kids outside enjoying different campsites.
Later on they bought a cabin at One Island Lake during the ’80s which became Lenore’s little piece of heaven – a spot full of fun times with friends & family alike. Every day she’d swim across then back through the bay plus use the sauna regularly too! Their Canada Day parties were famous: bocce ball matches followed by roast beef & ribs smoked just right for guests’ delight. But best moments were summers when grandkids visited – Conor, Cameron, Braden & Cara came all the way from southern Ontario plus cousins Andrew & Olivia from Thunder Bay joined in too! Swimming races water skiing turtle catching bonfires adventures-lots going on! Though six kids kept them busy – especially grandma – Lenore ruled firmly but kindly earning herself nickname “No Nonsense Grandma” thanks mostly because all those Guiding leadership years gave great practice!
More recently both became great grandparents so Lenore earned another title: Grandma-the-Great! Cara (Tyler) has daughters Addelynn Blakely Camryn; Braden (Sarah) has Blaize Maeva; Sarah (Andrew) has Emmerson Charlotte; Amanda (Steve) has Enna; Olivia (Mike) recently welcomed Leo their son too! Jim & Lenore traveled often down south meeting these newest members whenever possible.
Over time they saw quite some places together-two winters spent in Australia trips visiting England Italy Hong Kong plus several Caribbean islands thrown in there somewhere too! For decades now Florida Arizona have been winter homes especially Florida since Lenore loved being near water so much one favorite memory involves walking barefoot along Venice Beach headed toward yoga followed by swimming sessions right afterward in warm gulf waters! Both stayed active biking golfing tennis pickleball playing sports always part of daily routines setting an example everyone else admired within family circles.
She’ll be missed by many folks who knew her kindness quiet strength living fully till end Those stories shared lessons learned examples set will keep reminding us about who she really was through everything
Rest easy now.
