Pasquale Pittarelli - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

December 20, 1937 – May 5, 2026

We’re very sorry to share that Pasquale Pittarelli, a loving husband, dad, and granddad, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. He was surrounded by family and was 88 years old.

Pasquale was born on December 20, 1937 in Campochiaro, Italy and came to Canada in 1954. He married Anna Castaldo on May 4, 1963-the love of his life. He really enjoyed his time here but nothing meant more to him than his family. He was so proud of his five kids and loved the busy life they all shared.

He had a real talent as a shoe rebuilder and eventually opened up Pittarelli Shoe Rebuild-a shop well known in the community where he practiced his craft and made lots of friends along the way. People appreciated not only his skill but also his friendly nature and quick sense of humor that customers always remembered. His dedication as a provider and strong family values will be carried on by everyone who knew him.

Pasquale liked being outside; he took pride in tending to his garden and enjoyed long walks. You’d often find him at the bocce courts having fun with friends over some friendly competition. One thing he loved doing every year was making wine, sausages, and tomato sauce-a tradition that brought the whole family together. He also belonged for many years to St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church and the Da Vinci Centre.

He is survived by his wife Anna of 63 years; their children Mary Pittarelli, Lucy Wiwcharuck (Wes), Linda De Rocco (Steven), Julia Zia (Mark), and Nick Pittarelli; grandchildren Matthew, Adam, Alex Wiwcharuk; Noah and Tessa De Rocco; Luca, Rosa, Pio, Gianna, Francesco, and Mariella Zia. Also surviving are sisters- and brothers-in-law: Carmen Mc Glashan; Pellegrino (Patricia) Castaldo; Iolanda (Rocco) Auciello; Frank Castaldo (Christine). Pasquale was predeceased by his parents Nicola and Maria (nee Mastroianni) Pittarelli as well as his in-laws Rizziero and Filomena Castaldo.

The funeral for Mr. Pasquale Pittarelli will take place Wednesday May 13th at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church with friends and family gathering for Mass at 11:00 am celebrated by Father Larry Kurec. There will be private entombment afterward at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation is scheduled one hour before service starting at 10:00 am inside the church.

If you wish to honor Pasquale’s memory with a donation you can do so through Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Foundation’s Cardiovascular Surgery Program.

The Westfort Chapel located at 420 West Gore Street at James is handling arrangements.
