The family of Joan Agnes Kresack (86) from Thunder Bay sadly shares that she passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband Ron, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents Andrew and Mayme Pope and her siblings Eleanora, Eileen, and Andy.
She is survived by her four children: Ron (Sally), Brian (Wendy), Janice Van Dyk (Bob), and John (Margaret), who all hold her memory close.
Her family grew with thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren – all dear to her heart.
After her kids started school, Joan went back to get a teaching degree. She taught grades 7 and 8 at several schools and was one of the early teachers to bring computers into the classroom. Later on, she led a new program as a Special Education teacher. In retirement, she enjoyed life with Ron in their dream home by Lake Superior. She loved traveling and spent free time making stained glass art, crafting beaded jewelry, reading books, and hosting family and friends at their lake house.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Skunta along with the nurses and staff at Hogarth Westmount Transitional Care Unit. The care and kindness they showed Mom brought us great comfort during these tough times.
Instead of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Joan’s name to:
The Alzheimer Society,
The Northern Cancer Fund
A private burial will be held at a later date.
