People in Cambridge have just voted in the 2026 local elections.

Council seats were contested across the wards of Abbey, Arbury, Castle, Cherry Hinton, Coleridge, East Chesterton, King’s Hedges, Market, Newnham, Petersfield, Queen Edith’s, Romsey, Trumpington, and West Chesterton.

There were 14 spots up for election out of a total 42 on Cambridge City Council – one councillor chosen from each ward.

District councils handle some local services like recycling programs, collecting council tax and planning decisions.

Before this vote took place in 2026, Labour held control of Cambridge City Council with 23 seats under their belt.

Voting closed at 10pm on Thursday May 7. The votes were counted the next day on Friday May 8. We expect results from the Cambridge City Council races by about 5pm Friday evening.

Across England that day over 5,000 council seats were contested in total across 136 different local authorities. Plus there were mayoral elections happening in six locations too.

You’ll find full details below for each seat contested here in Cambridge. Feel free to pick your ward using the drop-down menu provided.
