Local police are looking into what they think was a prank call about a shooting in Cambridge.
On March 16, officers showed up around 11:30 p. m. at a house near Eagle Street North and Concession Road after someone reported shots fired.
When the cops got there, they checked out the place and after digging into it, figured out nothing actually happened. That’s why they opened an investigation for public mischief.
This is just one of several fake calls police have been dealing with lately. Over the past month, there were multiple swatting incidents where schools had to go on lockdown, but all turned out to be false alarms.
“We take these reports very seriously and obviously have concerns with the evolution of these types of calls,” WRPS Constable Brad Hickey said previously.
These kinds of calls cause major headaches in the community and tie up emergency responders. Hickey pointed out that tracking down where some calls come from can be tricky since they might originate anywhere in the world.
It’s not just schools getting targeted by swatters; recent WRPS investigations also looked into supposed shootings at homes along Westmount Road in Kitchener – none of which were real either.
