A mall in Cambridge reopened after everyone was asked to leave because of a report about a suspicious package.
Waterloo Regional Police Service got a call Thursday morning about an online tip saying there was a bomb at the Cambridge Centre on Hespeler Road.
Cherri Greeno, a police spokesperson, told the Cambridge Chronicle that officers checked the whole mall for any danger.
A police statement released Thursday afternoon said, “a search was conducted, and nothing suspicious was located.”
“The threat is not believed to be credible,” it added.
At around 11:30 a. m., Cambridge Centre posted on its website and Facebook page that the mall had been shut down due to “a potential security concern on the property.”
“As a precaution, the mall was evacuated. The centre is now open. We thank our guests and tenants for their understanding during this short interruption,” their statement said.
The investigation into what caused the threat is still going on, and police are asking anyone with information to get in touch with them.
