Remembering John Labenski
John Labenski passed away on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025, at the age of 85.
He was born on July 10, 1940 in Hamilton, Ontario. John married Arlene (Mc Coll) and they shared 59 years together. He was the proud father of David (Carmela Mascitelli), Sharon (Rob Alidina), Jeffrey (Jannine), Christopher (Katherine), and Lisa (Andrew Graul). Grandpa to Alexandria, Adam, Maeve, Evan, Owen, Avery, Spencer, Cameron, and Caleb – all very special to him.
John was predeceased by his parents Frank and Amelia (Prokop) Labenski and his brother Walter. He is survived by his brother Richard (Lynn) along with many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A longtime member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, John’s faith played a big role in his life. He loved playing Pinochle and hardly ever missed a game with family. John also enjoyed model trains, gardening, and bike rides with his kids when they were younger. Family get-togethers meant a lot to him and he had a knack for fixing just about anything. He retired as an Instrumentation technician from Dofasco.
You’re invited to visit SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME at 485 Brant Street (just one block north of City Hall) in Burlington on Thursday, January 8th from 6-9 p. m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church at 196 Kenwood Ave., Burlington on Friday, January 9th at 10:30 a. m., followed by a reception. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the War Amps, St. Patrick’s Parish or any charity you prefer.
