KAKKAVAS, John.
We sadly share that John passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 89.
He was the loving husband of Zoe (Nee: Marinou), and together they celebrated 52 years of marriage. A devoted dad to Olga Kakkavas-Argirakis and her husband Alexis, as well as Tom Kakkavas and his wife Christine. He was a proud Pappou to Aris Argirakis, Alexander, and Eliana Kakkavas. John was preceded in death by his parents Konstantine and Olga Kakkavas and siblings Eleni, George, Peter, and Dimitri Kakkavas. Many nieces and nephews in Greece survive him. Early in his career, John worked at a hospital in Bristol, England before moving to Canada in the 1960s. After settling here, he found steady work at Chrysler Canada where he retired after 36 years of service. During that time he also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Windsor. He was part of Unifor Local 444 and attended Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. John truly put his family first every day; he showed them love that never wavered or faded through the years. When not with family, he loved traveling around the world-especially back to Greece-and spending time with close relatives and friends across Canada, the U. S., and Greece. He enjoyed being outdoors and was often seen at his local gym where he kept active while catching up with friends. People will remember him as friendly and caring who appreciated all life’s chances and achievements.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Central Chapel), 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E., (519) 253-7234 on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 p. m. and again from 6:00 – 8:00 p. m., with a Thrice Holy Hymn Service at 7:00 p. m. On Tuesday January 13th family and friends are welcome at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church (3052 Walker Rd., Windsor) starting at 10:30 a. m., leading up to the Funeral Service at 11:00 a. m., officiated by Very Rev. Evangelos Aravantinos. Burial will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
