In Loving Memory of Leanne Susan Isabelle Calder - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

Leanne Susan Isabelle Calder, 71, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2026. She was born on February 7, 1955, in Fort Frances, Ontario. Leanne lived a life full of creativity and kindness with a strong spiritual bond to the world around her. People will remember her as a warm and generous person who brought comfort and care to many.

Leanne was the daughter of Gordon Calder and Jackie Garriock and grew up in Northwestern Ontario. Even as a child she showed a big heart and creative mind that stayed with her all through her life.

During her working years, Leanne served as a legal clinic assistant where she helped folks get through tough times with patience and understanding. Later on, she enjoyed being a professional organizer – helping people find calm by tidying their spaces. She had this natural ability to see beauty and potential when others might not.

Leanne was very spiritual; she looked at life thoughtfully and with reflection. Friends often called her wonderfully quirky – someone who truly valued being herself and living honestly.

One of Leanne’s favorite things was crafting. She especially loved crocheting cozy blankets and dishcloths that she made with so much care. These handmade gifts were given to family and friends alike. They’ll be kept close as sweet reminders of how generous she always was.

Above all else, Leanne stood out for being kind-hearted and loving. Her warm nature made people feel welcome, understood, and appreciated. Whether chatting or offering advice or giving one of her handmade presents, she had this way of making others feel important.

She is survived by her daughters Treena (Warren) Smith and Amanda Burns; plus grandchildren Nathan Kruskowski and Holden Pintwala who gave her lots of happiness.

She was preceded in death by former husband Phil Burns; father Gordon (Charlotte) Calder; mother Jackie Garriock (Bill); brothers Vincent, Kevin, Kelly; also sister Carla Stewart.

Her siblings Roz (Artie), Pamela (Patrick) Colfer, John (Robyn), Charlene, Valley (Missy), along with many nieces, nephews & friends will miss her deeply too.

Leanne leaves behind memories filled with kindness plus creativity mixed with generosity. Her warmth along with unique outlook on life will stay alive in everyone who knew or loved her.

A service celebrating Leanne’s life will take place later so family & friends can come together to honor the wonderful person she was.

Even though she’s no longer here physically , Leanne’s love , crafts , plus the moments shared remain alive inside those left behind.

A Poem in Her Memory

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky,

but rather openings where our loved ones shine down

to let us know they are happy.
