After several police raids shut down the magic mushroom dispensaries in Kitchener and Cambridge earlier in 2024, it looks like Fun Guyz is quietly coming back to the Waterloo Region.
Word around town and from their website suggests that Fun Guyz will now be operating inside Vape Guys, a new shop opening up at 18 Ainslie St. S in downtown Galt, Cambridge.
Their site calls it “Our new secret location,” and their online map points straight to the Vape Guys store on Ainslie.
“We at Funguyz truly believe that magic mushrooms can save the world,” they say on their website. “We do our best to make the industry grow and prosper every single day.”
This comeback happens after Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) cracked down hard on these dispensaries, including one raid where they seized about $63,000 worth of drugs.
“We would like to remind the public that the sale of psilocybin is a criminal offence,” said Constable Chris Iden with WRPS in a statement to 570 News Radio. “Businesses engaged in selling these products are operating unlawfully, and the substances they offer are neither regulated nor subject to standardized quality control measures.”
Similar raids have hit other spots across Canada too, causing about 30 shops nationwide to close up shop.
The Fun Guyz website says they still run 28 storefronts for magic mushrooms across Ontario and Quebec, plus online sales remain active.
570 News Radio reached out directly to Fun Guyz for a comment. They responded with, “We do not have a Fun Guyz store in Cambridge,” but didn’t mention anything about this new “secret location” or whether it’s connected to Vape Guys.
The regional police added they’ll keep investigating complaints and will take action when needed to make sure everyone follows federal laws.
