VINCENT – On senior night Friday, Warren showed some serious love for their seniors, cruising past Cambridge with a 66-31 victory in Vincent.
Coach Blaine Maddox shook things up from the usual lineup and put five seniors out there who’ve really contributed to the program: Trent Dowler, Brennan Perdue, Hunter Hanes, Trent Fox and Dennis Pettey. Brayden Sallee and Caleb Davis even offered to sit so every senior could start at least once this season. Sallee made an immediate splash when he came in for Fox.
With four minutes left in the first quarter, Sallee exploded onto the court and scored the first nine points for Warren while they were digging out of an early deficit. He ended up with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Alongside him was Trent Taylor who led all scorers with 24 points and also grabbed 10 boards. Together they helped counteract some hot shooting from Cambridge’s Caleb Bond. Bond scored all his 12 points in the first half but that was about it for the visitors.
Taylor and Sallee combined for the first 25 points of the game, then Brennan Perdue and Ayden Cornell each scored off back-to-back turnovers by CHS just before halftime. That gave Warren a comfortable lead of 29-18 going into break-and from there they never looked back.
This was great prep for Maddox’s team ahead of their sectional final against New Lexington coming up on Friday in Vincent. After the game, Maddox and his seniors grabbed a mic to talk to fans who stuck around after such a one-sided win. Maddox urged everyone to come out and “sell this place out” for that big matchup.

The Warriors had some rough moments early on with turnovers but great shooting and smart plays quickly turned things around at home. By halftime, Warren was shooting an impressive 61 percent from the floor. The overall percentage dropped slightly to 57 because they took more shots as they pulled away later on. This kind of win can really build momentum for Warren (16-6), especially since they’re looking forward to revenge against New Lexington after losing on Dec. 21 by just five points-54-49-on their opponent’s court when stakes were lower than now.
“They would not quit when things got tough,” Maddox said to the crowd about his seniors. “They picked themselves up, and I like them. I am so proud of this team, and I told you I’m not allowed to pick favorites, but you guys were up-up-up-up -up here! I’ve still got a lot of coaching to do with you. I’m going to miss you. Boy, this has been a fast year. Parents, you set the tone, and I know not everyone was happy with coach Maddox every night, but you hung in there, you stuck with your son, you looked out for the program. That’s what makes this program the only place I’ll ever want to work.”
Despite starting slow with turnovers early on, Warren finished with just twelve total giveaways while holding Cambridge down to only hitting 34 percent from the floor-that bodes well heading into New Lexington next week where Panthers have topped sixty points twice already this season (Nov.27 vs. Licking Valley & Dec.30 vs Nelsonville-York).
