Elsner, Bert H.
We’re very sorry to share that Bert Elsner, who lived in Almonte, Ontario his whole life, passed away on March 9, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
Bert was preceded in death by his wife Cindy (Larose). He’s the proud dad of Malissa (Greg), Derrick (Tina), Cori-Jane (Guy), and stepdad to Jennifer (Kurt). He absolutely adored his grandkids Teagan, Kaleb, Cayden, Ryker and Jas. Also survived by his brother Henry (Maureen) and niece Amy. His parents Alfons and Elfriede along with brother Ralph went before him.
If you knew Bert, you probably knew about his love for birds. Over the years he raised all kinds – homing pigeons, pheasants, peacocks, silkies and more. He was a lifelong member of the Golden Triangle Racing Pigeon Club in Smiths Falls and also part of the Canadian Racing Pigeon Union.
When he was younger Bert helped out a lot on family dairy farms around Clayton and Appleton. Later on he worked many years as head ice cream maker at Peterson’s Ice Cream Factory in Almonte until it closed down. He also had jobs at a rose nursery in Carp and then did lawn care work back in Almonte. Lately he enjoyed working at Ashland Horse Farm near Ashton. Being from Almonte all his life meant a lot to him – he loved tending to his racing pigeons and keeping up those perfect gardens.
A celebration of Bert’s life will take place Sunday April 19th from 1:00 p. m. until 4:00 p. m. at the Almonte Civitan Hall located at 500 Almonte Street.
Everyone who knew or loved Bert is invited to come together and celebrate who he was.
