Ben Knight scored twice to lead Cambridge to a 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

Bristol Rovers nearly took the lead inside the first minute, but Jake Eastwood made a solid save to stop Fabrizio Cavegn.

Cambridge opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Sullay Kaikai charged into the box and passed it to Knight, who finished it off with a clean shot.

Kaikai had a chance to double the lead but missed wide, and instead Rovers pulled level right before halftime. Joe Quigley was awarded a penalty after being pushed down following Kofi Balmer’s long throw, and Quigley calmly put away the spot kick.

Cambridge went back in front on 56 minutes thanks to their own penalty. Knight coolly converted after Mamadou Jobe was fouled. Rovers assistant manager Paul Raynor got booked for arguing against that call.

The game was sealed at 3-1 with about 11 minutes left when James Gibbons launched a long throw that Sean Raggett flicked on during his debut, setting up Kell Watts to head home from close range.
