Cambridge Audio Teams With DeLorean Motor Company on an Integrated Amp

Over time, some well-known names in the audio world have teamed up with famous car brands, and now Cambridge Audio, an official partner of De Lorean Motor Company, is releasing its first product to mark this collaboration. Just like the spirit of De Lorean’s original stainless-steel sports car – made famous by movies and pop culture – lives on in the new Alpha5 model from the revived automaker, it also shines through in Cambridge Audio’s Evo 150 De Lorean Edition integrated amplifier. This piece captures the design vibe of De Lorean’s DMC-12, which was first shown as a prototype in 1976 and produced between 1981 and 1982.

Cambridge Audio started in the UK back in 1968 by a group of musicians and music fans. It quickly earned a name for making affordable yet high-quality audio gear, going all the way back to its first integrated stereo amplifier called the P40.

The Evo 150 De Lorean Edition costs $3,199 and combines an integrated amp with a network player that pumps out 150 watts per channel. It can power two pairs of speakers at once – like Cambridge Audio’s own Evo S speakers ($799 per pair) which are designed to match acoustically. This model is based on the regular Evo 150 but adds design touches inspired by the brushed stainless steel finish and silver details that make the original De Lorean DMC-12 so unique.

The Evo 150 De Lorean Edition comes with magnetic side panels you can swap out easily – faster than a car designer might sketch something on a tablet. One panel mimics the black grille and logo from the DMC-12, while another sports brushed metal finishes along with the modern logo from De Lorean’s upcoming Alpha5.

On front there’s a sharp-looking 6.8-inch LCD screen plus one dual-concentric rotary dial keeping things simple. The retro-style dual meters are a nod to those classic VU meters where needles jump around wildly back in their heyday. More practical though is that big color screen which shows album artwork clearly when you’re streaming digitally. The Evo 150 does it all – you can listen to internet radio or your favorite streaming services, and Bluetooth apt X HD lets you enjoy hi-res sound from compatible devices.

The Stream Magic app makes streaming super easy, while multiroom features mean this amp works well with Google Home, Apple Airplay, or Roon setups.

If you’re into CDs or digital files stored locally, you’ll like that it has a high-quality ESS SABRE ES9018k2m Reference DAC inside so you can hook up something like Cambridge Audio’s EVO CD ($1,199) directly. Plus there are XLR balanced inputs for connecting other quality analog gear. And vinyl fans get their share too – there’s even a built-in MM phono stage letting turntable owners enjoy their records without extra equipment.
