Cambridge United have taken Gillingham’s striker Elliott Nevitt on loan for the rest of the season.
The 29-year-old has netted three times in 24 games this season and actually faced Cambridge in a 1-1 draw over Boxing Day.
He started out playing non-league football around Liverpool before stepping up to the EFL with Tranmere Rovers back in 2021, after bagging a hat-trick for Warrington Rylands 1906 at Wembley during the FA Vase Final.
Nevitt is joining a Cambridge team that hasn’t lost in their last 11 matches and he said: “The club is on a good run and their ambitions are my ambitions. I want to be at the right end of the league, fighting for something.
“I know it’s going to be hard to get into the team when everyone is going well, but that’s what you want – you can tell it’s a good place to be.”
Currently sixth in the table, Cambridge will host Tranmere this Saturday aiming for their fourth straight win.
On signing Nevitt, manager Neil Harris commented: “He adds real competition and energy to the front line, and I believe he’s a very good fit for us.”
